Job Description
Overview
The Law Commission is recruiting a Grade 6 Law Reform Team Manager within the Commercial and Common Law Team on a 12-month fixed-term appointment. There may be an opportunity for the role to be extended or made permanent, subject to business need and the relevant approvals.
Location
Successful candidates will be based at 102 Petty France, London. A hybrid working arrangement is expected, with a minimum of two days a week in the office.

Responsibilities
Law Reform Project Responsibilities:
- Use programme and project management expertise to plan and execute law reform projects.
- Work with the Commercial and Common Law Commissioner to set the direction and deliver projects.
- Provide high-quality advice and support to Law Commissioners, the Chair, CEOs, Government Ministers, and Parliamentarians.
- Engage proactively with stakeholders inside and outside Government.
- Lead innovation in communication methods with stakeholders and the public.
- Oversee lawyers in drafting legislation where appropriate.
- Lead a culture of using data and evidence to inform law reform recommendations.
- Work with the Commissioner and team to identify opportunities for future law reform projects.

Essential Criteria
- Professional: Qualified to practise in England and Wales as a solicitor, barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive.
- Inclusive leadership skills.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and confidence.
- Ability to bring strategic thinking to complex law reform projects.
- Strong and clear communication skills.
- Project and programme management skills.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience at a senior level of private law, particularly commercial, chancery, or common law matters.
- Experience of law reform.
Application Process
- Candidates will be assessed against the Civil Service success profiles framework.
- An initial sift will be conducted on the lead behaviour, Leadership.
- Candidates must submit a Statement of Suitability (max. 750 words) demonstrating how they meet the role requirements.
- Interviews will be conducted in person, with requests for online interviews considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Candidates will prepare a 5-minute presentation on a legal issue and be assessed on technical skills, Motivational Fit, and behaviours.

Further Information
- The role is available to full-time workers and job-sharers.
- Flexible working arrangements are available.
- Candidates from outside London will be expected to visit the London office regularly.
- The role can only be worked from within the UK.
- If appointed, there will be restrictions on private practice.
- Successful candidates will receive a formal letter of appointment with terms and conditions of service.
- Suitable candidates not successful will be held on a reserve list for future posts.
