The NHS Lothian Primary Care Pharmacy and Medicines Service is currently undergoing a significant programme of transformation and integration. Our service is delivered by a multidisciplinary team of approximately 100 pharmacy professionals working across General Practices throughout Edinburgh.
Partnership working sits at the heart of our values. We work closely with GPs, Community Pharmacy teams, and the wider multidisciplinary workforce to deliver high-quality, person-centred pharmaceutical care across Lothian.

As part of the Edinburgh HSCP’s commitment to expanding clinical capacity in line with the Scottish Government’s Achieving Excellence strategy and the development of the Pharmacotherapy Service, we are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to support key prescribing initiatives across GP Practices in Edinburgh.
In This Role, You Will
- Work closely with GPs, practice staff, community pharmacists, care home staff, the HSCP multidisciplinary team and central pharmacy colleagues.
- Support the development and delivery of high-quality, safe, cost-effective and evidence-based prescribing.
- Contribute to individualised patient care within GP practices, the pharmacotherapy hub, care homes, and other healthcare settings.
- Participate in HSCP prescribing projects and promote awareness of prescribing management issues.
- Support the training and supervision of other members of the primary care pharmacy team.
Essential Requirements
- Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Excellent communication, IT and organisational skills.
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a wider team.
- Enhanced PVG Scheme Membership (or willingness to obtain).
HNC / Equivalency Requirement
Candidates should normally hold the Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Pharmacy Services Development and Management. However, applicants who do not hold the HNC but can demonstrate equivalent professional experience may also be considered.
