There is an exciting opportunity for you to join our Adult Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service in Dumfries and Galloway and make a difference to, and improve the lives of, adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic SLT Support Worker to work in our innovative and supportive Adult SLT Team.

You will be based at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, but you will be required to work in a variety of settings including hospitals, health centres, patients’ homes and care homes. You will be required, after initial training, to work unsupervised. You should be an excellent communicator, flexible and demonstrate competent IT skills in addition to excellent time keeping and organisational skills. You must be able to travel across the region independently.

The post will involve:

  • Completing relevant assessment and care plans under the direction of the Speech Language Therapist and within SLT clinical guidelines.
  • Working with the Speech Language Therapist to develop, implement and modify programmes of therapy.
  • Making structured observations that contribute to the assessment and development of therapy.
  • Using digital systems for both clinical consultations and meetings.
  • Working with adults requiring alternative means of communication e.g. picture boards, IPADs etc.
  • Supporting the SLT team with non-clinical duties such as admin & clerical support, compiling therapy resources, information gathering etc.
