Are you an experienced registered nurse with a passion for medicine safety, education, and quality improvement? Would you like to use your clinical expertise to influence how medicines are used safely across one of Scotland’s largest Health Boards? If so, this is an exciting opportunity to join NHS Lothian’s Pharmacy Medicine Safety Team and play a key role in improving the safe use of medicines for patients across our services.
About The Role
This is a unique role that combines medicines safety, education, quality improvement, and professional leadership. Working as part of the Pharmacy Medicine Safety Team, you will collaborate with nursing, pharmacy, and multidisciplinary colleagues to lead and support improvements in medicines management practice, helping to enhance patient safety across NHS Lothian. While the post is based at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, the successful candidate will contribute to NHS Lothian-wide medicines safety priorities and work across services and sites as required to promote the safe, effective, and high-quality use of medicines.
You Will
- Design, deliver, and evaluate medicines management education and training for nursing and multidisciplinary staff
- Provide expert advice and leadership on medicines management and safe medicines administration
- Support the investigation of medication-related incidents and translate learning into meaningful improvements in practice
- Use audit findings, incident data, and feedback to identify risk and drive quality improvement initiatives
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, guidelines, and safety initiatives
- Work collaboratively across professional groups to promote a culture of safe and effective medicine use

About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative registered nurse who can inspire others and champion safe medicines practice.
You’ll Have
- Current Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration
- Relevant post-registration clinical experience
- Experience of delivering education and training to healthcare professionals
- Knowledge and experience of medicines management and medicines safety
- Experience of quality improvement, audit, service development work, or clinical governance activities
- Excellent communication, organisation, and influencing skills
- The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- Strong relationship building skills and experience of working across multidisciplinary teams
