The Role
The post holder will work as part of the clinical pharmacy team in University Hospital Wishaw, providing clinical pharmacy services across a range of specialties including medical specialties, trauma and orthopaedics, surgery and medicines homecare. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based use of medicines, while supporting education, audit, and service development. You will be working across the 4 pillars of advanced pharmacy practice and so undertaking the RPS core advanced curriculum is highly encouraged.
Additional Information Specific to the Role
Delivery of high-quality clinical pharmacy services to designated wards and departments including:
- Surgery & Anaesthetics: Critical care training, surgical receiving, and supporting perioperative prescribing and working with the MDT.
- Medical Rotations: Acute medicine, medical high dependency, frailty, stroke, respiratory, cardiology, gastroenterology and endocrinology. Opportunities available for training to provide outpatient clinic support.

You will participate in consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings in addition to conducting patient-specific medication reviews. You will supervise and mentor junior pharmacists, foundation trainee pharmacists, and pharmacy students. The post provides the opportunity for delivering teaching sessions (formal and informal) to medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff. You will be required to lead or contribute to clinical guideline development, clinical audits, quality improvement projects, and service evaluations; support implementation of local and national guidelines and participate in risk management, incident reporting, and medicines safety initiatives.
Operational Duties Include
- Supporting dispensary and clinical screening duties as required.
- Contributing to weekend and on-call rotas.
In This Key Role, You Will
- Deliver patient-centred specialist pharmaceutical care to patients in specified clinical area(s).
- Communicate effectively, placing the person at the centre of any interaction.
- Deliver patient education to ensure the safe and effective use of medications and devices.
- Plan and prioritise own workload, to meet both the needs of patients, the department, other multi-disciplinary professionals, management and the changing needs of the service.
- Act as designated deputy for Senior Specialist Pharmacist.
- Deliver operational support to the pharmacy service.
- Participate in the pharmacy emergency duty rota for the hospital as appropriate.
- Participate in weekend and public holiday working rotas of the department.

What You'll Bring
- Masters of Pharmacy Degree
- Registered member of General Pharmaceutical Council
- Independent prescribing qualification or must work towards
- Evidence of postgraduate training and professional development in clinical pharmacy practice e.g. Post Registration Foundation Framework/ 1st year clinical diploma
- Relevant post registration experience in clinical pharmacy.
- Ability to effectively monitor patients’ therapeutic regimens in order to ensure effectiveness and reduce toxicity
