Fixed term – 12 month contract

An Exciting New Opportunity Is Available For SLT To Work Within CAMHS
We Are Creating a Skill Mixed Team Of Therapists And Assistants To Work Alongside CAMHS Colleagues To Support And Develop The Delivery Of The Neurodevelopmental Pathway Across Lothian. Key Result Areas For The CAMHS SLT Team Will Include
- Contributing to the assessment/formulation of communication disorders as part of the neurodevelopment assessment pathway.
- Training and supporting colleagues and families to recognise and manage speech, language and communication disorders.
- Creating and delivering environmental adaptations and group interventions for children and young people with Speech Language & Communication Needs alongside neurodevelopmental and mental health diagnoses.
- Promoting a partnership approach for the prevention of communication problems and for the use of visual supports in CYP settings.
- Evaluating and reporting on the quality improvements delivered as a result of SLT input.

This SLT team will be co-located with CAMHS team colleagues and will work flexibly across their bases in East & Midlothian, North & South Edinburgh and West Lothian. They will be line managed by SLT in partnership with CAMHS but will remain part of the Single System SLT Department for professional networking, appraisal and CPD.
As a Band 6 SLT working within CAMHS you will be responsible for contributing to case management and assessment and will have extensive knowledge of SLC needs and interventions in the context of Neurodevelopmental conditions. You will create and deliver training and interventions for SLC Needs and be familiar with monitoring and reporting outcomes on this work. You will enjoy multidisciplinary team working and be flexible and able to adapt to different team approaches bringing your unique SLT skills and knowledge to problem solve and employ new methods of working. You will have experience of using digital platforms and be familiar with the national agenda around Neurodevelopmental pathway and mental health and keen to promote the role of SLT in this work.

It is committed to the principles of improvement methodology to provide a high quality service focused on the child and family’s needs. All staff have a personal development plan and are encouraged to extend their skills through a variety of CPD activities.
