Clinical Trials Assistant Infectious Diseases
Band 3
LOCATION: Western General Hospital
CONTRACT DURATION: 1 year Fixed Term Contract/Secondment
HOURS: 36 (1.0 WTE)
Applications are invited from an enthusiastic, motivated and organised individual to join our established multi-disciplinary clinical research team based within the Regional Infectious Diseases Unit at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh.
The team is part of the Clinical Infection Research Group (CIRG), which delivers a diverse portfolio of infectious disease research across NHS Lothian. Our research includes vaccine studies, microbiology, sexual health, respiratory infections and other clinical trials aimed at improving patient care and public health.
This role is ideally suited to someone with excellent organisational abilities, strong computer skills and the ability to communicate effectively within a busy, fast-paced research environment. The successful candidate will have experience working with a range of IT systems and databases, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will support the day-to-day administration of clinical research studies, assisting with study set-up, participant documentation, data collection, data entry, maintenance of study records and essential trial documentation. They will contribute to the delivery of clinical trials from initiation through to study close-out, ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with International Council for Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) guidelines and regulatory requirements.
While the role is predominantly administrative, the successful candidate will also undertake some clinical and laboratory-related duties. This may include supporting participant visits, processing research samples and providing practical support for the delivery of research studies.
