About The Role
This new post is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic and innovative pharmacist looking to specialise in infectious diseases and work as part of a collaborative and forward-thinking team. You will:
- Play a key role in delivering high quality pharmaceutical care to patients within the Regional Infectious Diseases Unit (RIDU)

- Support and develop other members of the pharmacy team
- Benefit from opportunities for personal and professional development initiatives, in line with the four pillars of the Advanced Practice Framework
- Contribute to the development and delivery of pharmacy services in response to emerging challenges around site capacity and patient flow, including through OPAT.
Why Join Us?
The Western General Hospital (WGH) is a large teaching hospital located in a popular area close to Edinburgh city centre, with an established reputation for delivering high-quality care across a wide range of specialist services.
This is an exciting time for the RIDU pharmacy service with recent investment in the team to support expansion of the service. This role will provide opportunities to develop specialist clinical knowledge and skills, including inpatient ward rounds and outpatient consultations, in various services within RIDU. The successful candidate will become an integral member of the wider clinical peer group at the WGH. This is a supportive and collaborative team, with opportunities to shape service improvement and contribute to innovation within both the clinical service and pharmacy department.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
