Post Summary
Applications are invited for a Senior Aortic Fellow within the Scottish National Service for Aortic Arch, Thoracoabdominal and Suprarenal Aneurysms, a nationally designated complex aortic centre serving the population of Scotland.
This 12-month fellowship offers advanced exposure to complex open and endovascular aortic surgery within a high-volume tertiary referral service based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
The Fellow will work within a multidisciplinary team including vascular surgery, cardiac surgery, interventional radiology, anaesthesia and critical care.

Fellowship Highlights
- Open thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair (Extent II-V)
- Complex suprarenal and redo abdominal aortic reconstruction
- Management of chronic and post-dissection aortic pathology
- Advanced endovascular repair including TEVAR, FEVAR and BEVAR
- Aortic arch procedures including Frozen Elephant Trunk and staged arch-thoracoabdominal reconstruction in collaboration with cardiac surgery
- Hybrid repair strategies combining open debranching and complex endovascular techniques
- Management of national tertiary aortic referrals
- Participation in the biweekly National Aortic MDT reviewing complex cases from across Scotland
This fellowship is suited to postCCT vascular surgeons or international candidates seeking advanced experience in complex aortic surgery.
This is a 12-month fixed-term full-time post commencing August 2026. Candidates will support elective and emergency specialist vascular surgery at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE) in conjunction with a team of six other surgical trainees and eight vascular consultants.
The post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.
