SPATIAL DESIGNER (2D/3D) - Live Events
Location: London, hybrid
Contract: Fractional / freelance
Sector: Large-scale international live events
A leading international live events business is looking for a Spatial Designer with strong 2D and 3D capabilities to support the planning and delivery of large-scale temporary event environments.
This is a hands-on design and coordination role, sitting across spatial planning, technical drawing, visualisation and temporary infrastructure. You’ll work across multiple projects at different stages, coordinating with internal teams, suppliers and stakeholders to turn complex venues into clear, buildable environments.
THE ROLE
- Develop masterplans and detailed project layouts for large-scale temporary event venues, covering grandstands, hospitality, perimeter, guest flow and back of house areas
- Produce clear 2D technical plans and coordination drawings for suppliers, authorities and internal teams
- Coordinate drawings for temporary structures including scaffolding, marquees, box truss and other tier 1 infrastructure
- Review and coordinate supplier drawings, identifying clashes, interfaces and inconsistencies with the wider venue design
- Create 3D visualisations ranging from clean white renders through to lightly textured visuals showing indicative finishes, furniture, lighting and branding
- Support tender processes with accurate drawing packages and design information
- Coordinate design changes between internal departments and external suppliers
- Review spaces against venue and event standards, identifying issues and proposing practical solutions
- Manage multiple projects in parallel, each with its own venue, programme, stakeholders and delivery requirements
- Contribute to reusable design templates, processes and standards that improve efficiency across future events
- Attend site visits where required and translate site conditions and findings into the design

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
EXPERIENCE
- Experience within large-scale events, live production, exhibitions, festivals, sports venues or a closely related environment
- Strong understanding of how temporary event infrastructure is planned, coordinated, built and operated
- Proven experience coordinating tier 1 temporary structures such as scaffolding, marquees and box truss, including reviewing supplier drawings and resolving clashes and interfaces
- Strong track record producing 2D plans and technical layouts for complex projects involving multiple stakeholders
- Good 3D visualisation experience, with the ability to judge the appropriate level of detail for different presentation stages
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and staying organised when deadlines converge

SKILLS
- Advanced AutoCAD or Vectorworks skills
- Strong 3D modelling capability using SketchUp, Rhino, 3ds Max or a similar platform
- Mid-level rendering capability
- Good understanding of spatial planning, guest flow, sightlines, accessibility and safety within public events
- Working knowledge of how temporary structures are specified, procured and installed, with the confidence to coordinate directly with structure suppliers
- Clear and concise communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Calm, proactive and organised approach, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines
