Contract 3D Data / Computer Vision Engineer
A cutting-edge AI and autonomous vehicle business is looking for a contract 3D Data / Computer Vision Engineer to build data transformation tooling supporting large-scale annotation and labelling workflows.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on Python, 3D computer vision, sensor geometry and multimodal data. The successful candidate will work with images, video, LiDAR and calibration data, transforming datasets between internal systems and external annotation providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Build Python scripts and tooling to prepare multimodal datasets for external annotation providers
- Transform internal data into provider-specific formats and convert completed annotations back into internal systems
- Work with images, video, LiDAR, calibration data and 3D sensor datasets
- Project LiDAR and other 3D data into camera/image space using calibration and sensor geometry
- Work with coordinate frames, transformations, projection geometry and rotation matrices
- Handle geometric annotation structures including polygons, lines, curves and other spatial formats
- Build visualisation tooling to support annotation workflows and quality checking
- Transcode image and video data into required external formats
- Process large datasets in cloud environments using parallel and batch-processing techniques
- Develop reliable tooling to automate previously manual annotation and data-transformation workflows
- Support integrations across multiple annotation providers with different formats and technical requirements

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Desirable Experience
Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:
- Autonomous vehicles, robotics, perception, mapping, calibration or sensor fusion
- Annotation and labelling pipelines
- Scale AI, Cognic, Encord or similar annotation platforms
- LiDAR, radar and multimodal sensor datasets
- 3D reconstruction, structure from motion or other geometry-heavy computer vision applications
- NumPy, SciPy, OpenCV, Pillow or scikit-image
- FFmpeg and video-transcoding workflows
- PyArrow, Ray or Spark
- Azure, AWS or other cloud environments
- Building internal tooling to automate large-scale image, video or sensor-data workflows
- Master's or PhD-level background in Computer Vision, Robotics or a related discipline
This role would suit a strong Python engineer with genuine 3D/Computer Vision or Robotics experience, rather than a generalist data engineer. The focus is on understanding complex sensor data and building practical, production-quality tooling around it.
