Harbour24 is an interactive digital design studio.
We're building a bespoke interactive 3D product configurator for a confirmed client, industrial and defence sector, that runs directly in the browser, no app, no plugin, on exhibition displays, iPads, and desktop. Think of it like a car configurator: rotate, zoom, tap a hotspot, watch the model update. We need someone who can take our client's CAD data and turn it into something that looks and feels like that.
What you'd be doing
The CAD we're starting from is engineering-grade only, accurate shapes and dimensions, no materials, no lighting, no finish. Your job is everything between that and a real-time, web-optimised, believable 3D asset: cleaning and optimising the geometry, building materials and textures, lighting it properly, building or placing it into environments, and setting up any animation (opening panels, configuration changes, deployment sequences) it needs.
We're looking for a true generalist who owns that whole pipeline end to end, not a narrow specialist in one piece of it, and who's genuinely comfortable on the technical, performance-minded side of the work as well as the creative side. If you're equally at home in Blender or Maya, know your way around Substance Painter or Designer, and have actually shipped assets into a real-time engine (Unity, Unreal, or a WebGL/Three.js pipeline) rather than only ever rendering stills, that's exactly the profile.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we're looking for
- Real, shipped experience taking CAD or engineering-grade 3D data and turning it into a textured, lit, animation-ready real-time asset
- Strong in Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max, plus Substance Painter/Designer or equivalent
- Practical understanding of what makes an asset perform well in a real-time engine or browser (poly count, texture budgets, draw calls), not just how it looks in a render
- Comfortable working from data that's incomplete or inconsistent in quality, and asking the right questions rather than guessing
- Freelance or contract, remote, UK time zone overlap preferred

Nice to have
- Experience with Unity or Unreal specifically, or with optimising assets for Three.js/WebGL delivery
- Past work in defence, industrial, automotive, or another sector with genuinely complex engineered products.
- Animation experience beyond simple turntables, mechanical or configuration-change animation
- AR/VR content experience (WebXR, mobile AR), not required for this build but useful range to have if the project extends that way later
This is a paid contract engagement, scoped project by project, with real potential to grow into a rolling contract as the client's product range expands. If this sounds like you, message me directly with examples of CAD-to-real-time work you've actually shipped, not just personal or student projects.
