Role Title: 3rd Line Engineer
Location: Cardiff (On-site)
Contract: Outside IR35 (Temp to Perm)
Role Overview
I'm looking for a 3rd Line Engineer in Cardiff to join a client of mine focusing on education support. This would be for 6 months, with the opportunity to go permanent.
You'll serve as the primary technical escalation point for core IT systems, enterprise network performance, and cloud administration. You'll maintain a robust, secure, and scalable IT infrastructure supporting a large user base, and manage daily high-tier escalations alongside key network and systems projects.
A core focus of this position is hands-on administration of Google Workspace (Google Admin Console) as well as working with UniFi equipment and general networking.
Key Responsibilities
- Google Workspace: Manage users at scale, Organisational Units, Security & Compliance policies, GAM scripting, and Google Drive.
- Network & Wireless Operations: Maintain, optimise, and expand site-wide networking infrastructure using UniFi systems (Gateways, Switches, and APs). Manage VLAN segmentation, wireless coverage, bandwidth allocation, network access controls, and site connectivity.
- Escalations & Incident Resolution: Act as the final internal escalation tier for complex infrastructure, network connectivity, and SaaS-related issues.
- Perimeter Security & Access Control: Oversee network firewall configurations, web and content filtering enforcement, network security policies, and multi-factor authentication (MFA).
- Endpoint & Device Management: Manage and support cross-platform hardware deployments, including Chromebooks, macOS devices, and Windows workstations.
- Infrastructure & Project Support: Assist with directory services, DNS/DHCP administration, network upgrades, system migrations, and maintaining technical documentation and topology maps.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
