Transport Shift Manager

Kinaxia are looking to recruit a Transport Shift Manager to join their team at their site in Washington.

The role of the Transport Shift Manager will be to plan and execute collection and delivery schedules via the most cost efficient and cost-effective means, in line with the business objectives, customer service levels and current legislative requirements.

About The Job

  • Take full operational responsibility for the transport operation throughout the night shift.
  • Ensure drivers are properly briefed and have clear instructions before beginning their work.
  • Monitor vehicles and deliveries throughout the shift, identifying delays or potential failures at the earliest opportunity.
  • Replan work and allocate drivers, vehicles and trailers effectively when operational circumstances change.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with customers regarding delays, service issues and revised arrival times.
  • Ensure all required customer procedures, booking references, late codes and delivery instructions are followed.
  • Control the dispatch and debriefing process, ensuring paperwork and transport records are completed accurately.
  • Produce a clear and comprehensive handover for the incoming day team.
  • Ensure full compliance with Drivers' Hours, Working Time Directive, Operator Licence, DVSA and company requirements.
  • Monitor driver infringements, defects, vehicle checks and other transport compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate breakdowns, vehicle defects and out-of-hours fleet issues.
  • Manage driver attendance, performance, conduct and operational standards.
  • Support investigations into accidents, incidents, service failures and near misses.
  • Monitor service, utilisation and operational KPIs, addressing areas of underperformance.
  • Control agency usage and other night-time operational costs wherever possible.
  • Build strong working relationships with customers, drivers and colleagues across the wider Kinaxia network.
  • Identify practical improvements that make the operation safer, more reliable and more efficient.

  • Logistics qualification would be desirable
  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) or equivalent is desirable
  • Working knowledge of the Highway Code, EU tachograph requirements, Working Time Regulations, Road Transport Regulations
  • Commercial awareness
  • Working knowledge of transport operation systems
  • Geography
  • Health and Safety regulations
  • Relevant transport management experience
  • Analysing and solving logistic problems
  • Transport operation systems
