Uitkerkse Polder - Nature
Located between Blankenberge, Wenduine, Nieuwmunster, and Zuienkerke, the nature reserve Uitkerkse Polder offers a unique meadow landscape with numerous ditches and cattle drinking pools. This centuries-old area is the most important meadow bird area in Flanders and a true attraction for nature lovers and birdwatchers.
What to Expect at Uitkerkse Polder?
- Walking and Cycling Routes: Explore the Uitkerkse Polder through various walking routes ranging from 1 km to 7.70 km and a cycling route of 16.5 km. Perfect for discovering the natural beauty of this area.
- Bird Watching: The area is a paradise for bird watchers. In winter, thousands of geese settle here, while spring sees the courtship displays of meadow birds. The various bird hides offer a silent view of the resting and breeding areas.
- Visitor Centre: The visitor centre is the ideal starting point for your adventure in the Uitkerkse Polder. Discover the story of the largest nature reserve in West Flanders and enjoy delicious organic and local products in the cafeteria or on the picnic terrace by the pond.
- Nature Play Area and Nature Experience Trail: For families with children, there is a nature play area with climbing logs, climbing ropes, and a willow wigloo. Additionally, you can explore the 1 km long Kievitspad for a fun and educational nature experience.
