An Exciting Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work for the National Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme within the Nottinghamshire multi-professional team.

The National AAA Screening Programme

The National AAA Screening Programmes aim is to reduce the number of people who die from a AAA in the eligible population. Those eligible for screening are in their 65th year or older, assigned male at birth and who are registered with a GP. Research shows that by scanning those eligible for screening, reduces the rate of premature deaths from ruptured AAAs by up to 50%.

Role Description

The post holder will be required to undertake abdominal ultrasound scanning within various community and hospital-based clinics around the Nottinghamshire County, in accordance with national and local guidelines. Whilst ensuring work is undertaken to a high standard. The postholder must undertake and successfully pass, the national accredited Health Screening Diploma and yearly assessments of their continuing competency.

Requirements

  • Full current UK driving licence and use of own vehicle for work purposes
  • Complete and pass the Level 3 Health Screening Diploma (HSD) in AAA Screening (if not already obtained) and complete and pass the AAA yearly reaccreditation
  • Organise and conduct ultrasound scans on the abdominal aorta in those people born male aged 65 years and over, to reduce deaths prior to rupture
  • Transport bulky portable ultrasound equipment and clinic supplies to approximately 50 various clinic locations around the county
  • Undertake, record clinical measurements, and other patient information as required
  • Inform patients of their results giving further information and offering support
  • Deal with anxious patients and their relatives with tact, empathy, patience and discretion
  • Recognise where communication difficulties arise and overcome barriers to understanding
  • Attend meetings and training sessions
  • Maintain clinical skills, AAA screening knowledge, and continuous professional development
