Client Accountant — AAT Qualified / Part-Qualified

Aster & Trujillo — City of London (Chancery Lane)

Full-time, permanent | Hybrid (one day per week from home, following probation) | Immediate start

Who We Are

Aster & Trujillo is a City of London advisory firm providing UK and cross-border tax, legal and accountancy services to private clients, owner-managed businesses and international groups. Founded by Spanish professionals and headquartered at Temple Chambers, 87 Chancery Lane, the firm has built its reputation on the UK–Spain corridor, advising British nationals with interests in Spain and Spanish and European businesses establishing or operating in the United Kingdom.

We are a close-knit, partner-led firm. Those who join us are given genuine responsibility early, direct access to the Directors, and the opportunity to grow with the practice as it expands.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced AAT-qualified or part-qualified accountant to join our London accountancy team as soon as possible. This is a client-facing role: you will be allocated your own portfolio of clients from the outset and will be expected to manage those relationships with the professionalism and discretion our clients expect of a City firm.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Managing a portfolio of client accounts and acting as the principal point of contact for your own clientele
  • Bookkeeping and maintenance of client ledgers (Xero, QuickBooks and comparable platforms)
  • Preparation and submission of VAT returns under Making Tax Digital
  • Bank reconciliations, management accounts and supporting schedules
  • Preparation of year-end statutory accounts and corporation tax computations for review
  • Liaising with HMRC and Companies House on client matters
  • Ensuring statutory deadlines are met and client files are maintained to the firm's standards
  • Supervising the work of your dedicated secretary

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Support Structure

Depending on the experience and seniority of the successful candidate, a secretary will be assigned to you on an exclusive basis — that is, working solely for you and your portfolio rather than being shared across the team. Your secretary will undertake, under your direction and supervision, the routine processing that underpins each client file: bookkeeping and ledger maintenance, data entry, bank feed coding and reconciliation preparation, the collation of client records and supporting documentation, and the chasing of outstanding information from clients. You will set the priorities, review the output and remain responsible for the quality and accuracy of the work delivered to the client.

The Candidate

  • AAT Level 4 qualified, or part-qualified ACCA/ACA with AAT Level 3 as a minimum
  • A minimum of four to five years' experience in UK accountancy practice, managing multiple clients
  • Confident and articulate in client correspondence, written and spoken, in a formal professional register
  • Sound working knowledge of UK VAT, PAYE and corporation tax compliance
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing statutory deadlines without supervision
  • Fluency in a European language — in particular Spanish, but also Portuguese, Italian, French or German — is a distinct advantage given our international client base

  • Study support for AAT and ACCA progression
  • The opportunity to build and grow your own client portfolio within a boutique City firm
  • Exposure to cross-border work and to the firm's expanding Spanish operations
  • Central London office, close to Chancery Lane and Temple
