Kick-start your career with a Level 3 AAT Apprenticeship at MGR in partnership with Kaplan. This is an exciting opportunity for a school/college leaver. You’ll gain valuable hands-on experience in a real workplace while studying towards a nationally recognised accountancy qualification.
Wage: £25,000 a year
Training course: Assistant accountant (level 3)
Hours: Monday to Friday - 9.30am - 5.30pm. 35 hours a week
Start date: Monday 2 November 2026
Duration: 1 year 6 months

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity to launch a professional career straight from school. As an Accounts Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced accountants, supporting a wide range of businesses while developing your technical knowledge and practical skills.
As part of your apprenticeship, you will be fully supported in studying towards the AAT qualification, combining practical workplace experience with professional study. Once completed there will be an opportunity to continue with the ACCA to become a Certified Accountant. The ACCA is one of the most respected accountancy qualifications internationally and we hold Platinum Employer status.
What You'll Be Doing
- Completing bookkeeping
- Assisting with the preparation and completion of VAT returns
- Assisting with the preparation of corporation or personal tax returns
- Producing Monthly Management Accounts
- Producing Statutory Accounts
- Working with clients across a variety of sectors
- Learning accounting and business principles from experienced professionals
- Developing technical, analytical and communication skills
- Studying towards the AAT/ACCA qualification as part of your apprenticeship programme

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Assist with the investigation of, and response to, financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements, and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve, or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using a range of approaches and media, with an understanding of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule
Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Level 3 - AAT
This Level 3 programme builds on the foundations for entry level talent to support growth within an Accountancy and Finance function.
Employees on this apprenticeship will ensure an Accountancy and Finance practice performs in the most effective way. It includes the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting and provides the opportunity for them to support the business with essential skills and behaviours to drive results.
You will learn how to prepare financial statements for Sole Traders and Partnerships, the importance of management accounting information, and how to prepare VAT returns. You’ll develop the technical skills to start, or progress, your career in accountancy and this will allow you to continue with your studies onto Level 4.

- Financial Accounting; Preparing Financial Statements (FAPS).
- Management Accounting Techniques (MATS).
- Tax Processes for Business (TPFB).
- Business Awareness (BUAW).

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- Maths (grade 9-6)
- English (grade 9-6)
A Level in: Any - associates subjects, accountancy, business (grade A)
