About NCA’s Carers In Employment Programme

In the UK almost 2.5 million people currently have work and caring responsibilities and this figure is expected to double by 2030.

1 in 9 of the workforce in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire has unpaid caring responsibilities at any one time.

In a recent study by Carers Trust (Pushed to the Edge Life for Unpaid Carers in the UK Report 2022) 48% of carers reported that they had given up work (or study) due to their caring role and a further 15% had reduced their hours.

As employers, providing employees with the support to manage their unpaid caring alongside their paid work offers benefits to you, them and those they care for.

Through our Carers in Employment initiative, Nottinghamshire Carers Association (NCA) want to work with major employers and SMEs in Nottinghamshire to support them to retain those staff who are at risk of leaving the workforce.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
