Academic Director

Academic Director – Business and Technology School

Full-time, Permanent

Location: University of Huddersfield – London Campus, Stratford, Greater London

Study Group will deliver a selection of post-graduate and undergraduate courses for the University of Huddersfield (UoH) at its new Business and Technology School in London. Several pathway programmes, designed to progress onto these courses, will also be offered. The campus is tailored to attract a diverse international student body seeking high-quality teaching with strong employability opportunities in London.


About the Role

The Academic Director will lead a teaching team in delivering UoH’s and Study Group’s programmes, providing academic leadership for both the University’s taught courses and the pathway programmes. Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide inspirational leadership across academic teams in collaboration with campus management, UoH, and Study Group central teams
  • Own the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of learning & teaching (L&T) and research strategies for UoH London under the direction of the Head of School
  • Implement continuous improvements through structured enhancement approaches to achieve student success targets
  • Own accreditation compliance, including AACSB and BCS, alongside UoH quality assurance processes
  • Curriculum planning, staff resourcing management, and accreditation condition monitoring
  • Contribute to UoH partnership boards and committees, regularly reporting back
  • Analyse student outcomes, feedback, and stakeholder insights, proposing improvements to course delivery
  • Collaborate with Study Group’s academic networks and engagement forums

Leadership, Management & Personal Development

  • Manage and lead academic staff effectively, using Study Group’s Individual Contribution & Development process
  • Foster a culture of high academic standing through teaching excellence, research output, and professional engagement
  • Recruit and onboard academic staff with relevant qualifications to meet accreditation requirements
  • Allocate teaching resources within agreed budgets to ensure operational viability
  • Organise peer observations, review sector best practices, and create personal development plans for staff
  • Partner with the Industry and Engagement Director to embed employability activities in curricula
  • Support and mentor academics to identify and promote scholarly activity, aligning with UoH projects and strategic initiatives

Academic & Operational Management

  • Oversee compliance with validation documents, VLE framework, and student outcomes
  • Work with Student Experience & Operations Director to co-develop internal partnerships
  • Address daily academic challenges while ensuring timely interventions for performance monitoring
  • Protect Study Group’s and UoH’s name and reputation; act as an ambassador for recruitment/engagement activities
  • Establish and sustain high student satisfaction standards while adhering to Prevent regulations

Academic Standards, Quality Assurance & Enhancement

  • Implement Quality Assurance procedures outlined in the UoH Handbook
  • Ensure alignment with:
    • Study Group’s, UoH’s, and relevant external body (AACSB, BCS) policies and standards
    • Safeguarding student assessment integrity and feedback processes
  • Co-lead course committees and student panel operations (including student panel coordination and meeting UoH reporting requirements)
  • Contribute to the Annual Evaluation Process, submit reports for QAA reviews, and promote compliance
  • Assist with new/renewal course documentation submissions

Partnership Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with UoH partners
  • Facilitate UoH-academic team collaboration for optimal student experience
  • Promote opportunities for collaboration with the UoH main campus
  • Represent Study Group at partnerships, leveraging relations to grow the campus

About You

Ideal candidates will meet the following criteria:

Essential

  • Terminal/doctoral degree in a relevant discipline (business, education, technology, or related field)
  • Consistent research profile (ABS 3/4* rating) with leadership potential for the school’s scholarly activities
  • Fellowship of Advance HE (or commitment to attain within 12 months)
  • Proven track record in:
    • Academic leadership (course/programme minimisation)
    • Staff and resource management
    • A business school context (underg details ")); Graduate and postgraduate curricula design and delivery Leadership of change and innovation Teaching diverse international students Managing complex education programmes
  • At least 5–7 years’ relevant higher education experience, including academic management

Preferred

  • Prior experience with professional accreditation (e.g., AACSB, BCS)
