The Role
Reporting into the Academy Senior Physiotherapist, part-time Sports Therapists will provide medical support and expertise to Academy Players and other Academy Clinical/Medical staff as required.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensure Academy players under your care receive appropriate assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries.
- Provide appropriate medical cover at all training sessions/games/festivals/tournaments which you attend.
- Provide effective communication strategies to inform relevant staff of the progress of players under your care, in particular the Lead U9-16s Physiotherapist, Academy Sports Science, Academy Senior Physiotherapist, the Academy Manager, and the relevant Coaching Staff.
- To monitor and reflect upon the practices and treatment you provide to ensure continual professional development.
- To ensure the appropriate medical equipment is present at all training sessions and games you are covering.
- To check equipment regularly and ask for training if you are unfamiliar with the equipment.
- To familiarize yourself with the Emergency Action Plan and to ask for training if you are unfamiliar with the EAP.
- To attend relevant safeguarding presentations and ensure you are practicing within the outlined safeguarding processes within the club.
- To communicate with the Lead 9-16s Physiotherapist and Designated Safeguarding officer if there are any safeguarding queries or issues.
- To ensure all medical records are maintained and updated accordingly and in line with the relevant bodies’ rules and regulations. Medical records are completed on the Football Intelligence Platform (FIP).
- To liaise with parents as and when necessary to provide them with the relevant updates.
- To assist with the PDP caseload when required.
- To liaise with the Senior Academy Physiotherapist / Academy Doctor when necessary.
- To adhere to club policies with particular emphasis on safeguarding children and equity.
- To support when required the Academy Screening and Testing program alongside the delivery of rehabilitation programs.
- Providing accurate GPS reports of team and individual analysis on a daily, weekly basis.
- Ensure the Football Intelligence Platform (FIP) is consistently and regularly updated in relation to all Sport Science, S & C, and data requirements.
- Assist with daily workflow to set up training and gym sessions.
- Ensuring individualized, developmental programmes for youth team players to support their individual development.
- Working alongside the pitch session with Sports Science staff and coaches to improve the quality of the session.
- Contributing towards player rehab and performance programmes.
- Assist in nutrition and hydration preparation for the team and individuals.
- Any further duties as required by the Academy Senior Physiotherapist within a multi-disciplinary approach.

You'll have:
- Outstanding communication skills with a view to being able to speak with parents, coaches, players, and contacts.
- Strong organizational skills and competent in administrative duties (excellence in case notes is a must).

Experience and Qualifications required
- BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy/Sport Therapy (or academic equivalent of higher degree).
- FA Level 4 Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football (ITMMIF).
- A current FA/FAW Safeguarding Children Workshop Certificate (or willingness to complete within 1 month of appointment).
- Casual staff will be required to monitor, maintain, and update their relevant medical qualifications and registrations. Will meet annually with the Senior Academy Physiotherapist to communicate and ensure current qualifications meet the necessary requirements of the relevant governing bodies.
- Experience of working with professional football/sports including pitch side/matchdays.
- Experience of working within a Football Academy and an understanding of the EEPP.
- Ability to meet the travel needs of the post (which includes travel across the UK and occasionally overseas).
