About the Role

Location: Newcastle Head Office, 55 Degrees North

Reporting to: Shared Service Manager

The Role

Go-Ahead Group is seeking an Accounts Payable Clerk to provide financial, administrative and clerical support across the accounts payable function. The role will help ensure invoices are processed accurately, supplier accounts are reconciled and payments are made on time, while supporting strong controls and positive relationships with suppliers and business units.

Responsibilities

  • Invoice and payment processing
    • Receive and review invoices for accuracy and completeness, verify approvals and process invoices in a timely manner.
    • Prepare and execute electronic fund transfers and other payment methods.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic records of invoices, payments and supporting documentation.
  • Supplier accounts and business support
    • Reconcile supplier statements and transactions, investigating and resolving outstanding issues.
    • Respond professionally to supplier and business unit enquiries about invoices and payments.
    • Work collaboratively with business units to improve alignment and efficiency across the accounts payable process.
  • Controls, reporting and improvement
    • Support month-end closing activities and generate accounts payable reports and summaries when required.
    • Follow company policies, procedures and internal controls, together with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Identify and support process improvements that strengthen efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications

Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths GCSE, or further education passes in a finance-related subject.

Required Skills

  • Experience in accounts payable or a similar finance role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work professionally with suppliers, business units and colleagues.
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
  • Experience of troubleshooting issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.

Preferred Skills

Familiarity with ERP systems would be an advantage.
