To support the continued strength and growth of our Health & Wellbeing practice, we are looking for an experienced media savvy Account Director to join us on a fixed-term basis to provide maternity leave cover. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver innovative and brilliant work that contributes to the practice momentum within a thriving and ambitious team.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about health, with a broad base of pharma and consumer health experience and a strong grasp of the regulatory environment. You will support a varied portfolio of clients spanning consumer diagnostics, AI-enabled scientific discovery, women’s health, pharmacy and eyecare, among other areas.

You will be a proactive, forward-thinking and ambitious Account Director with experience leading large, strategic and integrated accounts. You will enjoy unpicking complex client challenges and applying insight, creativity and intelligent thinking to develop solutions that deliver against business and communications objectives.

Exceptional client relationship skills and strong media relations expertise are essential to lead busy press offices. You will be confident owning senior client relationships, advising clients through opportunities and issues, as well as having trusted relationships with health and features journalists across multiple channel formats (print, broadcast, online, podcast). You will combine strategic judgement with excellent writing, commercial awareness, rigorous quality control and a collaborative leadership style.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations

Senior Client Relationship Management & Consultancy

  • Own senior client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser and ensuring clients receive clear, confident and commercially grounded counsel.
  • Build a deep understanding of each client’s brand proposition, products, services, business strategy and communications objectives.
  • Manage client expectations effectively, anticipate needs, navigate difficult situations and resolve issues with empathy and sound judgement.

Media & Influencer Relations

  • Develop and lead media and influencer strategies with a hands-on, lead by example approach
  • Build and maintain strong, senior relationships with healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences and consumer health journalists, as well as relevant influencers and organisations.
  • Provide confident media counsel, identify compelling news and feature opportunities, shape angles and lead proactive pitching alongside the wider team
  • Oversee interviews, media briefings and press office activity, stepping in directly on priority opportunities and sensitive issues.
  • Use media insight and results to refine strategy, improve performance and advise clients on the evolving landscape.

Content, Messaging & Quality Control

  • Lead strategic content development across channels, ensuring every output supports the client’s objectives and works for its intended audience.
  • Develop and quality-control press releases, thought leadership, messaging, social content, fact sheets, backgrounders and visual communications.

Commercial, Project & Budget Management

  • Maintain disciplined account financials, including keeping overservicing below agreed thresholds and addressing risks early with the client and senior team.
  • Identify and convert opportunities for organic growth by confidently discussing scope, value and investment with clients.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven Account Director-level experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, health tech or consumer health communications, ideally in an agency environment.
  • Outstanding client relationship skills, with evidence of owning senior client relationships, providing trusted consultancy and managing complex or sensitive situations.
  • Strong media relations expertise, including established relationships with relevant healthcare and/or consumer media, excellent news judgement, confident pitching and senior-level media counsel.
