Account Director
We’re looking for an Account Director with around 5 years’ agency experience in health, life sciences or healthtech communications, ready to lead accounts for VC-backed healthtech companies, biotech spinouts and NHS-facing products.
Location: Remote-first, with events and regular team meetings in London
Type: Full-time, permanent
Reports to: CXO
Line manages: 1–2 team members
Salary: £60,000 to £65,000 DOE
Start: January 2027, and we’ll wait for the right person
Why this role exists
The Account Director is the senior owner of client relationships at SomX. You’ll sit between our founders and the delivery team, and clients will come to you first. You’ll run a portfolio of accounts end to end and play a real part in winning and growing business. Above all, this role is built on trust. You care about what you put your name to, and what you put our name to. You care on a human level about our clients, our team and the impact of the work we do, and you get excited about it with us. You share and live the values we hold as a company, and you tell us early when something isn’t right. We’re a small, agile and growing team, so you’ll need to be comfortable being hands-on. There’s also space for the role to grow with you and the business, shaped by your interests and strengths.
SomX is a communications and creative agency for healthtech, biotech and pharma. We blend PR, content, design, events and media production to help innovators earn attention, build trust and grow. We’re innovative in how we work, we host incredible events, and we collaborate with exciting brands in the UK and around the world. We’re AI-native, which means we’re able to focus on where real-life expertise and relationship building is most valuable. You’ll work across our integrated team and be accountable for client satisfaction and the commercial health of your accounts, and you’ll work closely with the founding team to have a voice in shaping how the agency grows and evolves.
What you’ll do
Client relationships – Own the senior relationship on every account in your portfolio, so clients come to you for counsel and trust your judgement. You know their birthday, their favourite colour and what they had for dinner last night, because you understand what it takes to build and maintain relationships beyond a transactional checklist. Get to know each client’s business, sector and competitors well enough to bring them ideas before they ask. Be honest with clients when something needs to change, and spot opportunities to grow the relationship and bring them to the MT.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Delivery – Develop strategies and programmes across the integrated communications mix that meet each client’s objectives. Direct your account teams on delivery and quality, and keep work moving at the pace it needs to make an impact. When you spot a risk, flag it early with a plan before it reaches the client. Work with SLT and MT on scoping and resourcing on an ongoing basis.
Team management and leadership – Line manage 1–2 team members, with clear objectives, regular feedback and support to help them grow. Brief your team clearly, give direct and constructive feedback, and make sure high-quality work leaves your accounts client-ready, with no generic phrasing or AI tells. Support recruitment as the team grows.
