Account Director

EDERA Lab | UK-based | Remote first

EDERA Lab is a specialist marketing and communications agency working with companies and investors shaping the future of industry. From industrial biotech and green chemistry to advanced materials, energy and agri-food tech, we help ambitious innovators explain complex technologies, build credibility and accelerate commercial growth.

Our work spans brand and positioning, PR and earned media, thought leadership, content, LinkedIn and digital communications, brought together through integrated B2B marketing and communications programmes. We connect marketing and communications to the outcomes that matter to our clients: building market awareness, strengthening customer confidence, attracting investment, enabling partnerships and accelerating market adoption.

We’re looking for a UK-based Account Director with strong B2B marketing and communications experience, excellent client leadership skills and the commercial judgement to turn business priorities into focused, integrated programmes.

The role

You’ll own a portfolio of client accounts, working closely with founders and leadership teams to understand their business, audiences and commercial priorities and translate them into clear positioning and effective marketing and communications strategies.

You’ll set account direction, determine the right mix of channels and activities, guide delivery and take responsibility for quality, results and commercial performance. Rather than treating PR, content, social and digital as separate disciplines, you’ll help clients understand how they can work together to build visibility, credibility and engagement with the audiences that matter.

This is a hands-on leadership role in a growing agency. You should be equally comfortable advising a CEO on positioning, shaping an integrated campaign, identifying a strong media angle, strengthening thought leadership, reviewing LinkedIn content or addressing an account that is running over scope.

Working closely with EDERA’s founders, you’ll have the autonomy to make informed decisions and move work forward independently, while recognising when their involvement will add value.

What you’ll do

  • Lead client relationships and integrated strategy: Become a trusted adviser to founders and senior teams. Understand their technology, markets, audiences and commercial priorities, challenge briefs where needed and translate business objectives into focused marketing and communications programmes.
  • Build integrated campaigns and programmes: Identify the right combination of positioning, PR, thought leadership, content, LinkedIn and digital communications for each client. Ensure channels reinforce one another rather than operating as disconnected activities.
  • Drive PR and earned-media results: Shape credible stories, guide media strategy and outreach, and stay involved in important pitches and opportunities. Help turn technical developments, funding, partnerships and commercial milestones into relevant stories for trade, business and mainstream media.
  • Shape positioning, messaging and content: Help clients articulate what makes them distinctive and translate complex technologies into clear, compelling narratives. Ensure messaging remains consistent across campaigns, executive communications, media, digital channels and content.
  • Lead thought leadership and executive communications: Develop distinctive viewpoints and help founders and senior leaders build credible profiles in their markets. Connect LinkedIn, media commentary, articles and other content to broader company positioning and commercial priorities.
  • Understand audiences and channels: Think beyond outputs to consider who clients need to influence, what those audiences care about and where they can be reached. Use this understanding to recommend priorities across earned, owned and digital channels.
  • Protect quality and credibility: Give clear briefs and constructive editorial direction. Challenge weak ideas, generic language and unsupported claims, ensuring work is accurate, distinctive, audience-aware and commercially relevant.
  • Lead and develop colleagues: Set priorities, delegate with clear accountability and give specific, timely feedback. Help colleagues develop stronger strategic and commercial judgement and the confidence to work independently.
  • Own account performance: Manage scope, budgets, resourcing and timelines. Establish meaningful objectives, assess programme performance and adjust the approach when activity is not delivering the intended outcome.
  • Support retention and growth: Demonstrate value, lead renewal conversations and identify opportunities to expand relationships around genuine client needs. Contribute to proposals and pitches with clear strategic recommendations and realistic delivery plans.
  • Improve how we work: Use AI, data, tools and better processes to improve research, audience insight, planning, content development, measurement and efficiency. Share useful approaches across the team while retaining responsibility for judgement, accuracy and final quality.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you’ll bring

  • A strong track record in integrated B2B marketing and communications, ideally gained in an agency environment, with experience developing and delivering programmes across multiple channels.
  • Strong PR and earned-media expertise, including the ability to identify strong stories, understand what journalists need and guide effective media outreach.
  • Experience leading client accounts and advising senior stakeholders, including managing difficult conversations and making recommendations when the brief or situation is unclear.
  • The ability to connect positioning, PR, thought leadership, content, LinkedIn and digital communications into a coherent strategy rather than treating them as separate workstreams.
  • A good understanding of B2B audiences, customer journeys and how marketing and communications can support awareness, credibility, lead generation and commercial growth.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and the ability to make complex technical subjects clear and compelling without losing accuracy.
  • Strong strategic and creative judgement, including the ability to identify the central idea or message around which a campaign or programme should be built.
  • Commercial awareness, including experience managing account scope, budgets, resource allocation, retention and client growth.
  • Experience developing colleagues, maintaining quality and taking responsibility for team delivery.
  • Curiosity and the ability to get up to speed quickly on unfamiliar technologies, sectors, audiences and business models.
  • Practical experience using AI in marketing and communications, with the judgement to question its output, verify information and recognise where human expertise is essential.

Experience working with startups, scaleups, investors or venture capital firms would be particularly valuable. Experience in deep tech, industrial technology or other complex B2B sectors is welcome, but just as important is evidence that you can learn quickly, ask intelligent questions and translate complexity into effective marketing.

This is a remote-first role for someone based in the UK. You should be willing and able to travel to London approximately every four to six weeks to meet and work with the team or internationally a few times per year to attend events or meet clients.
