What's happening?
We are looking for a highly-experienced Account Director specialising in Earned Media / Publicity to join Weber Shandwick and lead on earned media approaches for some of the agency’s biggest, most exciting accounts; you’ll be working with a brilliant team on fame-making campaigns, providing counsel and strategic direction on execution and earned strategy, and motivating the team to craft work that truly is their best!

- Serve as key integrated team member, and collaborates with senior internal agency staff to develop and deliver effective media strategies and ensure client deliverables are being met
- Act as a trusted media advisor to clients and as part of an integrated account team, providing clear counsel on newsworthiness of campaigns and embedding your awareness of the news landscape into campaign development and delivery
- Lead or co-lead story mining sessions with clients and internal teams to develop news-making story angles that drive coverage results
- Ability to translate client business goals, audience insights and behaviours into narratives and angles that drive meaningful coverage
- Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with journalists, content creators and producers and support the wider team to embed media insights into their day to day work
- Proactively identify media opportunities by staying close to the news cycles, emerging trends and cultural moments
- Effectively manage and oversee pitch teams and support a results focused, media-centric team culture which underpins delivery
- Collaborate with social and digital counterparts internally and on the client side to ensure earned results carry through integrated programming
LEADERSHIP AND TALENT MANAGEMENT
- Mentor, coach and develop direct reports to deliver high performance while supporting personal and professional development goals
- Work with team leads to offer guidance and training to the wider team, elevating media skills and knowledge across your accounts
- Create and support an inclusive team environment and consistently display behaviors that support integration
- Build and lead productive relationships internally, with interagency teams, and a diverse array of agency colleagues
- Participate in training that would specifically enhance cultural competency and ability to lead, coach and develop diverse teams
- Actively participate in office or agency DEI initiatives to attract and retain diverse talent

Minimum Criteria:
To be considered for this role, you must have significant previous experience in PR, communications or earned media.
Ideal Experience Required:
Ideally you will possess many of the above skills and attributes in addition to:
- A brilliant understanding of what makes an earned story – and how to make them travel across multiple channels
- A strong sense of news and curiosity about culture, media and trends shaping conversation
- Proven ability to generate creative story ideas and turn them into compelling media opportunities
- Excellent pitching and storytelling skills, with the confidence and persistence to see an idea through from idea to content / coverage
- An excellent communicator, you'll build connections quickly with the people around you
- A collaborative approach and enthusiasm for working with different disciplines to create integrated, culturally relevant campaigns
- A proactive, solutions focused approach and the ability to thrive in a fast paced agency environment
- Strong social and digital acumen with an understanding of how earned stories can be amplified across social, influencer, digital, paid and owned channels
