Account Manager
The Fuel Store (TFS) is a progressive, Birmingham based business using technology to develop its market and stay ahead of the competition. It is on a mission to revolutionise the way business is conducted in its chosen business segments. The business is a leading provider of fuel and associated products into the transportation sector, providing a range of products and solutions to its customers to increase profits through increasing share of wallet, customer loyalty and usage; serving customers more efficiently and cost-effectively. It currently facilitates the provision of and processes the transactions to allow 65 million litres of Fuel per annum through its card processes.
The business was started 10 years ago and to date has grown organically. Future development will be a combination of organic and inorganic growth offering its customers a carefully thought out package of products with software that enables easy/dynamic/cost optimised fleet management at its core.
The business is very efficient and proudly operates with circa 50 colleagues whilst delivering over £80m of turnover. It means that the senior management team need to be able to operate at both the strategic and operational level often in the same meeting. The ability to ‘roll up your sleeves’ and deliver your own solutions is a hugely important asset to us.
Our significant growth has led us to further invest across our Existing Customer Management team, increasing revenue and expanding partnerships. We’re now seeking an Account Manager to join us and drive the continued success of our customer management. This role will involve strategic account management and identifying growth opportunities for both fuel and non-fuel products.
Brief Overview:
- Type of Opportunity: Permanent, Full Time
- Basic Salary: Competitive
- Bonus: Additional £10k OTE
- Location: Birmingham, (4 days per week expected in the office)
- Reports to: ECM, Team Manager
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and manage a portfolio of existing customers, taking accountability for usage, retention, and overall account performance.
- Proactively grow customer fuel usage and share of wallet through structured outbound engagement.
- Monitor customer behaviour and performance using data, alerts, and CRM insights to prioritise activity.
- Intervene early with customers showing signs of drop-off, under‑utilisation, or churn risk.
- Identify and execute opportunities to improve customer value through network optimisation and product usage.
- Deliver consistent outbound productivity with high call quality and clear next‑step management.
- Resolve customer issues efficiently, working cross‑functionally with all departments.
- Maintain accurate CRM records and ensure all customer interactions and actions are clearly documented.
- Manage customer relationships professionally, balancing commercial outcomes with excellent customer experience.
- Track portfolio performance against key metrics and take ownership of results.
- Contribute insights and feedback to improve ECM processes, playbooks, and customer outcomes.

Requirements:
To have the ability to contribute to The Fuel Store’s success, you will need the following knowledge, skills and experience:
- At least 3 years’ experience in a account management, sales or business development role, with a track record of managing, growing and retaining accounts
- Ability to work to a high volume and manage your own diary effectively
- The ability to learn quickly and take in complex information
- Familiarity with CRM systems and sales processes
- Experience in high-volume environments with strong KPI discipline
- Familiarity with industries such as fuel cards, energy, telecoms, insurance and financial services (inc. payments) is preferable
- Strong ability to negotiate, influence, and make data-driven decisions that align with company objectives.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to manage high-level discussions with key stakeholders.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment, responding quickly to evolving strategies and client needs.
- A good level of commercial acumen
- Comfortable with CRM systems such as Dynamics 365 and using data to drive decisions.
