Smiths (Gloucester) Ltd is a family run business owned and run by the Smith family since 1982. Smiths has grown from a single owner-operated plant hire company to a multifaceted group with family values still firmly at the heart of each project undertaken. With depots in Avonmouth, Cardiff, Gloucester, Stonehouse and Tewkesbury we operate predominately across the South-West of England. We specialise in Construction, Waste Management, Plant Hire, Demolition and Transport operations.

What are we looking for?

Finding the right Account Manager is key to building lasting customer relationships and driving sustainable business growth. We are looking for an experienced and customer-focused Account Manager to join our growing waste management team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of commercial clients, identifying opportunities to enhance services, and delivering exceptional customer support. Working closely with operations and sales teams, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring customer satisfaction, retention and revenue growth while helping businesses achieve their waste and recycling objectives.

Bristol and South Wales regions

Responsibilities for the job role:

  • Manage a defined portfolio of customers
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all commercial matters
  • Maintain regular contact and site visits to build strong customer relationships
  • Ensure high levels of retention and customer satisfaction
  • Identify and deliver opportunities to grow revenue within existing accounts
  • Cross-sell across all service lines (Commercial waste, Skip hire, Hook bin (RoRo) services & Scrap and recycling)
  • Manage pricing in line with company strategy and margin expectations
  • Review account profitability and identify improvements
  • Support contract renewals, renegotiations and extensions
  • Escalate complex pricing or contractual issues where required
  • Ensure smooth onboarding of new services and customers
  • Act as the link between customer and operations teams
  • Support resolution of service issues, ensuring prompt and effective outcomes
  • Proactively manage customer expectations and service delivery
  • Support Regional Sales Executives and BDMs by identifying new opportunities within existing customers
  • Assist with tender responses, quotations and contract proposals
  • Maintain visibility of opportunities within CRM systems
  • Work closely with internal teams including operations and customer service teams.
  • Ensure aligned communication and delivery across departments
  • Maintain clear ownership of assigned customer accounts
  • Track performance against targets including revenue, margin and retention
  • Provide regular updates, forecasts and reporting to management
