Account Manager - Southwest Region

Are you a driven, results-focused sales professional looking to make a real impact? We’re especially keen to hear from candidates with Mechanical & Electrical, construction, plant or hire industry experience.

If this sounds like you, join MEP Hire (part of the industry-leading Vp plc Group) and play a key role in expanding our reach, driving revenue and building strong, long-term client partnerships across the Southwest of England.

This role will cover a defined Southwest territory, with Bristol, Gloucester, Swindon, Plymouth and Exeter being the main conurbations. You’ll be at the heart of exciting projects within the construction and rental sectors, working with major subcontractors, national accounts and customers across the region to deliver real value.

As an Account Manager, you’ll have the autonomy to develop your territory, strengthen existing relationships and identify new commercial opportunities, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being out in the market and building lasting customer partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • As an Account Manager, you'll be the face of MEP Hire across your South West territory, owning a defined geographical area and delivering sustainable revenue growth across our innovative range of products and services.
  • Develop and manage customer relationships across the region, with a particular focus on Bristol, Gloucester, Swindon, Plymouth, Exeter and the surrounding areas.
  • Drive growth and hire revenue while maintaining profitability within our pricing and discount framework.
  • Strengthen relationships with existing customers at both head office and site level to unlock new opportunities and deeper partnerships.
  • Identify and win new customers, with a focus on subcontractors working on major construction projects.
  • Increase awareness of MEP Hire and the wider Vp Group as trusted, expert partners within the industry.
  • Build strong local relationships that support the strategic objectives of our National Account partnerships.
  • Use our CRM platform to maintain accurate customer information, plan activity and manage your sales pipeline effectively.
  • Operate on a 20-day cycle to ensure smart, efficient journey planning and maximise customer engagement across the territory.
  • Gain strong technical knowledge of our equipment and stay current on key regulations so you can provide informed, value-led solutions.
  • Use your understanding of our products' features and benefits to demonstrate what sets MEP Hire apart in the market.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
