Background and Role

IMCD UK is based in Sutton, Surrey, and employs around 250 people. The role of Account Manager, Industrial, Business Unit is to acquire and develop business within the high temperature, ceramics, electronics, and foundry market sectors. This role offers the opportunity to drive growth utilizing market knowledge, technical knowledge, and building strong relationships in a highly competitive, fast-paced market.

Your Responsibilities at IMCD:

  • Commercial stewardship of named industrial customers
  • Sales experience in core market segments of high temperature, ceramics, and electronics.
  • Maintaining and growing the profitability of the business across the customer base you will be responsible for
  • Contacting and converting potential or existing customers to promote new or existing products
  • Working closely with Product Managers, and other account managers, accessing their support and technical expertise so you can drive developments
  • Business analysis to identify gaps and new opportunities and reporting to management on performance
  • Managing all aspects of business related to customers; creating and following up samples, opportunities, visit reports, quotations, and price renewal campaigns via Salesforce system.
  • Travel to visit customers to build and maintain close relationships
  • Understanding customer needs to enhance our product penetration at the customer accounts
  • Continually growing and converting the new business opportunity pipeline for the accounts you are responsible for
  • Conducting customer profiling exercises and market research in order to have a targeted approach on cross-selling and maximizing sales by application.
  • Coordinating and rolling out product promotion campaigns with the support of the UK Marketing & Communications Team.
  • Understanding the extensive product portfolio and their application fit, as relevant to promoting to your customer base
  • Attend continued technical product training to enhance sales capabilities
  • To help formulate strategy within the relevant market sectors within the UK and rest of Europe
  • Supporting data management for the Industrials BU, ensuring customer, product, and business-related information is recorded accurately
  • Supporting ad hoc projects as defined by business needs and agreed with Business Unit Manager or Market Manager
  • Any other ad hoc tasks as required

  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills
  • Strong negotiation skills for commercial and wider business
  • Proven track record of developing commercial growth in the chemical industry
  • Motivated to win new business
  • Tracking and meeting KPI’s as outlined for the role
  • Strong communication and approach to relationship forming and nurturing with all stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of meeting business needs and the commercial targets related to that.
  • Experienced on how to approach and handle a variety of situations at the customer
  • Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to multitask
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and resilient, with a ‘can-do’, flexible attitude
  • Understanding the importance of data, accuracy, and IMCD reporting methods to support business activity.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to adapt to a range of stakeholders
  • Previous experience or training, working in a commercial role with proven understanding of how to grow business
  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Home office-based
  • Standard working hours, 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday.
