About the Role
Account Manager Department: Commercial – Sales & Account Management
We’re seeking an experienced Account Manager to join our growing team. This is a high-impact opportunity for those looking to work with large-scale public sector clients and deliver sales targets while ensuring excellence in client service.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and managing existing customer accounts in the public sector across the UK & Ireland, driving sales growth, revenue targets, and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborating within our Public Sector team, which consists of sales professionals handling lead generation and huge tender responses, alongside Account Managers who manage post-contract relationships.
- Actively contributing toward proposal development, tender bids, and ongoing project delivery.
Responsibilities
Core Duties
✔ Drive growth and service delivery within an assigned portfolio of public sector clients. ✔ Leverage expertise in IT solutions and technology-driven customer success. ✔ Negotiate contracts (both Fixed Price (FP) and Time & Materials (T&M) projects). ✔ Cobshaw effective internal governance while working externally with government stakeholders. ✔ Manage stakeholder influencing at multi-level stakeholders within organisations. ✔ Articulate detailed proposals and secure project commitments across complex, high-value contracts. ✔ Maintain strong relationship-building activities to retain and maximize revenue per client.
Requirements
Essential
- 2+ years experience in account/business development (Public/Sector/Central Government a plus).
- Proven experience in IT services, including:
- Consulting—as opposed to direct product-based roles—involving strategic implementations.
- Business development experience within Higher/Government/Defence sectors.
- Strong tender success rate (submissions, bids, response management).
- Proven project management skills from contract inception through delivery.
- In-depth knowledge of UK/Ireland Public Sector contracts, procurement cycles, and GDPR/record-keeping requirements.
- Influencing skills with stakeholder management at board to worker levels.
- Category ownership with negotiation experience including post-contract management.
- Experience with government-accredited tools (e.g. CP Old Practice area, PProclink) for submissions.

Must-haves
- Strong commercial acumen with negotiation skills around scope, margins, and customer pain points.
- Documentation proficiency: Exceptional Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Ability to distill complex info into clear, persuasive, detail-driven writing.
- Ability to work in remote/consultative settings, balancing client engagements with data-driven reporting.
- Emphasis on change management in guiding clients toward certain technological solutions.
- Demonstrates flexibility: may require shift work supporting event-based proposal submission needs.
Desirable
- Prior exposure to FX’g with central government / regulated agencies.
- Evidence of innovation—inductive support through industry-scale digital transformation.
- Awareness of ** Privatisation Trends / Central Government Statements** impacting UK’s evolving digital procurement avenues.

Compensation
