Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable Supervisor

You will be working full time 36 hours per week, on a permanent contract.

The salary is grade BSSH £39,319 - £41,521 (inclusive of Inner London Weighting), per annum.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable Supervisor to join our Finance Team and play a key role in ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of the College’s transactional finance functions.

Reporting to the Senior Finance Accountant, you will supervise the day-to-day Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable operations, ensuring that financial transactions are processed accurately, efficiently and in accordance with college policies, procedures and relevant financial regulations.

You will provide guidance and support to finance staff, monitor workloads and performance, and work closely with colleagues across the College, as well as external suppliers, customers and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the day-to-day operation of the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions.
  • Ensure invoices, payments, receipts, refunds and other financial transactions are processed accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Oversee the purchase ledger, ensuring supplier invoices are correctly authorised, coded and processed.
  • Manage the sales ledger and ensure outstanding debts are monitored and collected promptly.
  • Reconcile supplier statements, customer accounts, bank transactions and other relevant control accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve payment, invoicing and account discrepancies.
  • Support the preparation of month-end and year-end financial procedures and reporting.
  • Monitor aged debt and take appropriate action to support effective cash collection.
  • Ensure suppliers and customers receive a high standard of service and that queries are resolved promptly.
  • Supervise, support and develop members of the transactional finance team.
  • Assist with the development and improvement of financial processes, systems and controls.
  • Ensure compliance with College financial regulations, procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Produce accurate financial information and reports as required by the Finance Manager and senior colleagues.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the College’s finance services.
  • Review BACS runs payments
  • Review outstanding invoices each month to ensure suppliers are paid in a timely manner
  • Deal with all related enquiries
  • Reconcile payments to suppliers’ statements
  • Organise bi-monthly payment of supplier’s via BACS

About You

You will have substantial experience of working within an accounts payable and/or accounts receivable environment, ideally within a complex organisation. You will have excellent attention to detail and a strong understanding of transactional finance processes and financial controls.

You Will Also Have

  • Experience of supervising or coordinating the work of others.
  • Strong knowledge of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes.
  • Experience of reconciliations, aged debt and financial controls.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and experience of using finance/accounting systems.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to liaise with colleagues at all levels.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving problems.
  • The ability to maintain accuracy and confidentiality when working with financial information.

An accounting qualification or relevant professional qualification/study towards a qualification would be desirable, although relevant experience will also be considered.
