Hays Accountancy & Finance are exclusively recruiting for an Accountant on a permanent basis to join a rapidly growing & successful financial services group based on the outskirts of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. A varied finance role reporting directly to the Accounting Manager to deliver accounting processes across ledgers, reporting, statutory/regulatory returns & management accounting. You will support audits, ensure robust controls & compliance, along with being involved in continuous improvements to the accounting function. This hands-on role will offer remote/office hybrid working of 2 days on-site, 3 days remote once settled in, along with competitive benefits. Open to part-qualified/qualified accountants or candidates qualified by experience. Study package on offer for CIMA/ACCA/ACA if required.

Your new role

Your key duties will involve:

  • Preparation of management accounts, consolidation of financial reports and statutory returns
  • Prepare statutory accounts, maintain accounting records, reconciliations of ledgers and prepare/review journals
  • Approve payments, monitor cash movement and balances, process payroll when required, along with ensuring controls are as required
  • Assist with audit preparation, liaise with regulatory bodies and auditors, along with supporting process improvement and regulatory changes
  • Support complex financial query resolution
  • Support senior management with training/development of the accounting team
  • Involved in any ad-hoc financial projects

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this varied Accountant role, you will need:

  • Experience in a similar position, part-qualified/qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA or qualified by experience
  • Key MS Excel skills, experienced in a range of financial systems while being adaptable to business needs
  • Experience preparing management accounts, annual reports and financial statements, with a customer-focused approach
  • Ability to manage workloads to meet deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Be a team player who can also use their own initiative
  • Key communication skills to build both internal and external relationships at all levels
  • Experience within the insurance or financial services sectors with knowledge of regulatory returns would be advantageous but not essential
