Accountant Opportunity at a Leading Accountancy Practice Near Durham
A well-established and highly regarded accountancy practice near Durham is looking to appoint an Accountant to join its growing team. This is a genuine practice-side role with real variety — you'll be working across a broad and interesting portfolio of clients, gaining exposure to businesses of all shapes and sizes.
If you're AAT qualified or part-qualified (ACCA / ACA / CIMA) with solid practice experience under your belt, and you're looking for a firm where you'll be genuinely valued and supported to grow, this one is worth a serious look.
What you'll be doing:
- Preparing statutory and management accounts for a mixed portfolio of clients — sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
- Completing VAT returns and ensuring accurate, timely submissions
- Producing personal and corporate tax computations and returns
- Handling bookkeeping work where required, including reconciliations and journal postings
- Acting as a day-to-day contact for clients — answering queries, offering guidance and building strong working relationships
- Supporting senior team members with more complex assignments and year-end work
- Contributing to a friendly, collaborative team environment where knowledge is shared openly

What we're looking for:
- AAT qualified or part-qualified (ACCA, ACA or CIMA) — study support is available for the right candidate
- Solid experience working within an accountancy practice
- Confident preparing accounts for a range of clients across different structures
- Working knowledge of VAT and tax fundamentals
- Comfortable using cloud accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or similar)
- Strong Excel skills and a naturally methodical approach
- Excellent communication skills — you'll be dealing with clients directly
- Well organised, deadline-focused and able to juggle multiple assignments
