I’m working with a well-established independent accountancy practice in Altrincham that is looking to recruit a qualified accountant to join its friendly and experienced team.

This is a broad, hands-on role where you will take responsibility for your own portfolio of clients and manage their accounts work from start to finish.

The position would suit someone who enjoys working in a smaller practice environment, building strong relationships with clients and getting involved in a varied range of work rather than being restricted to one particular area.

They are looking to offer a salary in the region of £40,000 - £50,000, depending on experience, alongside a pleasant working environment and a good degree of flexibility.

Duties and responsibilities

The role will involve managing a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses and providing a broad range of accountancy services.

Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Managing your own portfolio of clients
  • Preparing year-end accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships
  • Managing accounts assignments from initial bookkeeping records through to completion
  • Preparing corporation tax computations and returns
  • Preparing personal tax returns where required
  • Reviewing bookkeeping and accounting records
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Assisting clients with bookkeeping queries and general accounting matters
  • Getting involved with payroll work where required
  • Liaising directly with clients and becoming a trusted point of contact
  • Managing deadlines and ensuring work is completed accurately and efficiently
  • Supporting junior members of staff where appropriate
  • Working closely with the Partners on more complex client matters and ad hoc projects

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

This is very much a general practice role, so there is plenty of variety and the opportunity to get involved across accounts, tax, bookkeeping, payroll and wider client advisory work.

Experience and qualifications

The successful individual will ideally be:

  • ACA or ACCA qualified
  • Experienced within an accountancy practice environment
  • Comfortable preparing accounts from start to finish
  • Experienced managing or taking responsibility for a portfolio of clients
  • Confident dealing directly with owner-managed businesses
  • Familiar with corporation tax, VAT and general practice work
  • Organised and able to manage a number of different client deadlines
  • Comfortable working independently while also contributing as part of a small team.

Experience across bookkeeping, payroll and personal tax would be useful, although they do not expect someone to be a specialist in every area.

The role could suit someone currently working as an Accounts Senior, Client Manager, Accounts Manager or qualified general practice accountant who would like more autonomy and client responsibility.

Benefits

The package will depend on experience but is expected to include:

  • Salary of approximately £40,000 - £50,000
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • A friendly and relaxed independent practice environment
  • Broad exposure to a varied portfolio of clients
  • Opportunity to manage your own client relationships
  • Variety across accounts, tax, bookkeeping and payroll
  • Good level of autonomy in managing your workload
  • Opportunity to work closely with the Partners and senior members of the business
  • Genuine scope to develop your responsibilities over time.

Company culture

This is a small independent accountancy practice with a friendly, professional and down-to-earth working environment.

They have built long-standing relationships with many of their clients and place a strong emphasis on providing a personal service rather than operating in a highly corporate or target-driven environment.

Because of the size of the practice, employees are given a good level of responsibility and exposure to clients, while also having the support of experienced colleagues around them.

It should particularly appeal to someone who enjoys the variety and autonomy of working within an independent firm and wants a role where they can manage clients properly, get involved across different areas of practice and become an important part of the team.
