Accountant - Central Edinburgh

Three Bridges Recruitment is working with a growing professional services business in central Edinburgh to recruit a hands-on Accountant. This is a great opportunity to join a close-knit finance team of four, working directly with the Head of Finance and taking responsibility for a broad range of accounting and reporting activities across multiple entities.

The position will initially be offered on a 6 month interim basis, with a genuine opportunity for the role to become permanent.

Job

The role of Accountant will give you the opportunity to be involved with the following:

  • Supporting the day-to-day finance function and maintaining accurate accounting records
  • Preparing and posting journals, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation and month-end adjustments
  • Preparing and maintaining balance sheet reconciliations
  • Producing monthly management accounts and supporting working papers across multiple entities
  • Providing meaningful commentary alongside management reporting
  • Preparing financial reports and analysis as required
  • Supporting variance analysis against budgets and forecasts
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns across multiple entities
  • Managing intercompany recharges and preparing payments for approval
  • Reviewing vendor payment runs
  • Supporting credit control activities
  • Reviewing revenue recognition and preparing appropriate adjustments
  • Maintaining and improving finance processes with a focus on robust financial controls
  • Supporting the Head of Finance with annual accounts and tax computations
  • Liaising with external accountants and auditors and responding to information requests

You

As Accountant you will be skilled and/or experienced in the following:

  • Strong hands-on financial accounting experience
  • Qualified or Part-Qualified Accountant
  • Experience producing management accounts through to month end
  • Good understanding of accruals, prepayments, journals and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Experience of revenue recognition reviews and adjustments
  • Previous experience within a consultancy, professional services or project-based environment
  • Highly proficient Excel skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a small finance team
  • Comfortable working across multiple entities and managing competing priorities
  • Business Central / Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience would be advantageous
  • Experience of the Business Central Projects module would be particularly beneficial
  • Exposure to Kantata or another project time capture system would be advantageous
  • Forecasting experience would also be beneficial
