Experienced Practice Accountant | Fooks & Co, Bargoed

Fooks & Co is looking for an experienced and capable practice accountant to join our long-established team in Bargoed.

For us, practical experience and the ability to take ownership of a job from start to finish are paramount. We are happy to consider professionally qualified, part-qualified and qualified-by-experience candidates, as well as students who can demonstrate strong and relevant practice experience. The key requirement is that you are comfortable working accurately and with a high degree of independence.

Your core role will involve preparing accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, taking the work from client records through to completion, including the associated:

  • Self Assessment returns
  • Partnership returns / SA800s
  • Corporation Tax returns / CT600s

As a small practice, the work is varied. You will also be involved in areas including:

  • VAT
  • Payroll
  • Making Tax Digital for Income Tax
  • Client queries and meetings
  • Liaising with HMRC by telephone, letter, and email

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Strong recent accountancy practice experience
  • The ability to manage jobs from start to finish
  • High levels of accuracy and technical competence
  • Confidence working unsupervised
  • Excellent organisation and the ability to meet deadlines
  • A strong work ethic and team-focused approach
  • Confidence dealing with clients face to face
  • Practical experience dealing with HMRC

Our current systems include Microsoft 365, TaxCalc, Client Engager, and Xero. Experience with these would be advantageous, although candidates familiar with comparable software should transition easily.

The Position

This is a full-time, office-based role, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, at our Bargoed High Street office. We can offer flexibility to work from home where a temporary need arises, but this is not intended to be a permanent hybrid or remote position.
