Financial Accountant / Team Leader

Cheltenham | Full-time

We’re looking for a hands-on Financial Accountant / Team Leader to join a dynamic accountancy business specialising in the live events industry.

This is a varied role combining day-to-day financial oversight with people leadership. You’ll take responsibility for a small team of bookkeepers, ensuring work is delivered accurately and efficiently, while also helping improve processes, controls and reporting as the business continues to grow.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Overseeing the day-to-day work of the bookkeeping team.
  • Allocating workloads and ensuring priorities and deadlines are clear.
  • Reviewing bookkeeping and reconciliations for accuracy and completeness.
  • Overseeing bank, supplier and event-specific reconciliations.
  • Monitoring ticket sales, event income and associated expenditure.
  • Supporting supplier management, payment processes and query resolution.
  • Ensuring financial information is correctly allocated across individual events.
  • Reviewing financial controls and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Supporting month-end processes and management reporting.
  • Producing clear financial information and commentary for senior leadership.
  • Investigating variances and helping stakeholders understand financial performance.
  • Working closely with operational teams to ensure finance has accurate and timely information.
  • Coaching and developing team members, helping build confidence and capability.
  • Creating consistency across processes, systems and ways of working.
  • Supporting wider finance projects and improvements as the business continues to grow.

What We’re Looking For

You’ll be someone who enjoys being close to the detail, but can also step back, prioritise and lead others.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Strong accounting and bookkeeping knowledge.
  • Experience overseeing or reviewing transactional finance activities.
  • Confidence with reconciliations, month-end and financial reporting.
  • Previous experience supervising, mentoring or managing others — or a genuine readiness to take that next step.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A process-improvement mindset — you naturally spot where things could work better.
  • Confidence communicating with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • A collaborative, approachable leadership style.
  • The ability to remain calm and organised in a busy, fast-paced environment.
