Hays Accountancy & Finance are supporting a well-established manufacturing and engineering business in Scunthorpe with the recruitment of a Temporary Accountant to provide sickness cover.

This is a broad and hands-on finance role within a busy finance function, offering exposure across both financial and management accounting activities.

Your new role

Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will support the day-to-day running of the finance function whilst ensuring accurate financial reporting and effective financial control. This is a varied position suited to an experienced accountant who enjoys working across multiple areas of finance and can quickly add value within a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation of management accounts and month-end reporting
  • Financial accounting activities, including balance sheet reconciliations
  • Producing trial balance information and supporting statutory reporting
  • Budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
  • Cashflow monitoring and forecasting
  • VAT returns and other regulatory reporting requirements
  • Bank reconciliations and payment processing
  • Credit control oversight and aged debt management
  • Producing financial reports and analysis for management
  • Supporting and mentoring finance team members where required
  • Assisting with process improvements and strengthening financial controls
  • Providing ad hoc finance support across the wider business

What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous experience within a varied accounting role covering both management and financial accounting
  • Strong understanding of month-end processes and financial reporting
  • Experience of budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management
  • Knowledge of VAT and compliance reporting requirements
  • Experience within a manufacturing, engineering or similar environment would be advantageous
  • Excellent Excel and systems skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Professional qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, ACA part-qualified or qualified) desirable
  • Available to start at short notice

What you'll get in return

  • Temporary assignment with an established manufacturing and engineering business
  • Salary equivalent of circa £40,000
  • Office-based role in Scunthorpe
  • Working hours: Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5.00pm with a 30-minute lunch break, and a 4.00pm finish on Fridays
  • Immediate start available
  • Opportunity to gain experience within a supportive and collaborative finance team
