Accountant (12-Month Fixed-Term Contract)
Birmingham | Hybrid Working (2-3 Days in the Office) | Up to £38,000 + Benefits + Annual Bonus scheme
Initial training will be provided in London, with expenses covered by the company.
Butler Rose is delighted to be supporting a global leader in building and civil engineering in the recruitment of an Accountant to join their UK head office finance team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover. This is an excellent opportunity to gain broad exposure across financial reporting, management accounting and business partnering within a leading international construction and infrastructure organisation.
Reporting directly to the Group Financial Controller, the successful candidate will support multiple entities across the business and play a key role in delivering accurate financial information while contributing to the continued development of the finance function.
The Role
As Accountant, your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting month-end, quarter-end and year-end reporting processes.
- Preparing accruals, prepayments, reconciliations and journal entries.
- Producing detailed monthly cost reports and project recharge invoicing.
- Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including invoice and expense processing.
- Assisting with treasury reporting, bank reconciliations and cash-related transactions.
- Monitoring aged debtors and creditors and supporting follow-up activities.
- Assisting with financial reporting, bookkeeping and audit preparation.
- Supporting external auditors with information requests and audit documentation.
- Providing accounting support across multiple entities within the group.

About You
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated finance professional who is looking to further develop their accounting career.
You will ideally have:
- Part-qualified or fully qualified accountant status.
- Strong finance and accounting experience.
- Excellent understanding of accounting principles.
- Advanced Excel skills, including formulae, Pivot Tables and Lookups.
- The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.

Experience within construction or engineering environments would be advantageous but is not essential. Knowledge of Sage X3 would also be beneficial.
