Accounting Assistant – Part-Time

Dudley Gore & Co is a friendly, well-established local accountancy practice supporting individuals and businesses with a wide range of accounting and tax services. We pride ourselves on providing practical, tailored advice and building strong, long-term relationships with our clients.
We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to join our small team on a part-time, on-site basis in Ramsgate.
The Role
You will support the day-to-day work of the practice, assisting with bookkeeping, accounts preparation, VAT and tax work, and general accounting administration.
The role would suit someone who has previous experience working in an accountancy practice and is confident working independently while also contributing positively to a small team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with the preparation of accounts through to trial balance and producing accounts/tax returns
- Supporting year-end accounting processes
- Preparing and posting accounting adjustments, including accruals, prepayments and depreciation
- Carrying out bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Reconciling accounts and ensuring liabilities agree to supporting records
- Maintaining accurate bookkeeping records and ledgers
- Assisting with the preparation of VAT returns
- Gathering and checking information for personal and corporate tax returns
- Using accounting software to maintain ledgers and produce basic financial reports
- Ensuring client records and supporting documentation are complete and accurate
- Responding to routine client queries and working collaboratively with colleagues
- Supporting the wider team with general accounting and administrative tasks as required

About You
We are looking for someone with practical accounting experience who can hit the ground running.
Essential
- Previous experience working in an accountancy practice
- Good understanding of accounting and finance principles
- Ability to support the preparation of financial statements and accounts to trial balance
- Practical understanding of accruals, prepayments, depreciation and year-end procedures
- Strong bookkeeping skills, including data entry and reconciliations
- Ability to reconcile accounts and agree liabilities accurately
- Xero and QuickBooks experience
- Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to communicate professionally with both colleagues and clients
- Comfortable working as part of a small team

Desirable
- AAT qualified, or qualified by experience
- Experience with TaxCalc
- Previous experience preparing or assisting with VAT and tax returns
- Experience producing and reviewing basic financial reports
