About The Role

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented placement student to join our Enterprise Operations (EO) finance team for a 12-month Accounting and Finance placement starting from 21 June 2027!

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of accounting and finance functions, including journal entry preparation, month-end close processes, bank reconciliations, payroll support, and internal billing. The successful candidate will play an active role in supporting both day-to-day operations and key financial reporting activities, working closely with various teams to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

Enterprise Operations (EO) consists of IT Services, Payroll, ESH, HR and Global Financial Services. EO provides support to all Lockheed Martin Business Areas throughout the UK.

This placement role is based within the Finance & Accounting function, but will have interaction with other departments.

You will participate in a structured cooperative educational/work program between the company and a college/university, and enrolled in an accredited degree program directly related to skills required by the company. Postholder will perform assigned tasks in administrative disciplines (e.g., Finance, Human Resources, Contracts, Production Planning, Facilities Administration).

Role & Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Analysing accounting records & preparation of journal entries.
  • Assisting with monthly accounting close process & US checklists
  • Bank account monitoring & preparation of General ledger reconciliations.
  • Supplying invoice & billing backup for recharges to Business Areas.
  • Prepare Bank transfers & some ad hoc payments.
  • Submittal of UK Payroll files into BACS
  • Internal & External Audit support.
  • Accurate recording of payroll, overheads, rents, pre-paids, liabilities and other expenses.
  • Clearance of suspense accounts
  • Maintain Internal Billing System details.
  • Proactive and diligent support to other team members
  • Ad hoc support to UK Travel, Accounts Payable & Payroll teams

Basic Qualifications

  • Working towards degree in Accounting, or associated Finance / Business discipline
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in accounting and finance
  • Demonstrated experience performing analysis and interpreting data
  • Attention to detail

Desired Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise
  • Demonstrated professional written and verbal communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take the initiative and work independently as required
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively research accounting issues
  • Experience performing tasks requiring application of GAAP
  • Experience with Microsoft packages notably Excel, Word & Powerpoint
