About the Opportunity
Mercor is collaborating with leading AI labs to develop a series of accounting-focused engagements covering areas such as audit reasoning, financial reporting, tax, GAAP/IFRS analysis, and related accounting workstreams.
Before finalizing these engagements, Mercor is seeking experienced accounting professionals to provide insight into how accountants actually work in practice. This written intake will help map real-world workflows, decision-making processes, specialty areas, tools, and professional judgment that may not be captured in textbooks or public resources.
Your responses will directly contribute to shaping future accounting engagements and determining how specialized work is structured.
Responsibilities
- Complete an approximately 30-minute written intake focused on your accounting practice and professional experience.
- Describe your day-to-day accounting workflows, responsibilities, and typical allocation of time.
- Explain the accounting workflows and activities that are most central to your current or recent role.
- Describe how experienced accountants divide and specialize within the accounting profession, including distinctions that may not be obvious from traditional textbook classifications.
- Identify important decision points, tools, processes, and judgment calls involved in your work.
- Share the less visible or “invisible” aspects of accounting work that outsiders and project designers may commonly overlook.
- Provide detailed and specific responses based on real-world professional experience.
- Help Mercor identify meaningful specialty areas and workflow distinctions for upcoming accounting engagements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
