Accounting Manager

London | Hybrid | Leading US Law Firm

My client, a highly respected US law firm, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join their London office. The position works closely with the CFO, DOA/COFA, and US-based finance teams, offering excellent exposure across the firm. As Accounting Manager, you will take ownership of a wide range of financial processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance and smooth day-to-day operations. This includes:

Accounting

  • Preparing, filing and paying quarterly VAT returns.
  • Supporting the annual SAR audit, liaising with auditors and responding to queries.
  • Working with the US Accounting team on the UK LLP statutory audit, including yearend journals and reporting.
  • Liaising with the relevant contacts on UK partnership tax filings and partner tax statements.
  • Performing GL reconciliations (pensions, loans, receivables, salary advances, deposits).
  • Overseeing expenses and supplier payments approvals and processes.

Payroll & Benefits

  • Managing monthly payroll in partnership with HR and an outsourced provider.
  • Maintaining the master salary list and ensuring timely, accurate payroll delivery.
  • Overseeing all HMRC requirements.
  • Managing pension contributions and autoenrolment compliance.
  • Handling payroll queries and preparing final data for the US team.
  • Completing payroll yearend tasks including PAYE Settlement and P11D(b).

Partner Payroll

  • Managing the UK SEP draw schedule and monthly partner payments.
  • Liaising with US teams on FX, tax and capital deductions.

Reporting & Support

  • Producing management and cashflow reports.
  • Responding to queries relating to cost orders, billing, WIP, AR and AP.
  • Completing Office for National Statistics submissions.

Compliance & Banking

  • Supporting compliance with SRA.
  • Maintaining relationships with banking partners.
  • Managing banking user access and permissions.
  • Handling card requests, credit limit changes and account closures.

Skills & Experience

  • Chartered Accountant qualification (ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
  • Strong experience in a similar accounting role, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of HMRC regulations, VAT, payroll processes and SRA Accounts Rules.
  • Proficiency in Excel and financial systems (3E, Emburse, online banking).
