Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering with a leading, established and growing property group to recruit a dynamic & experienced Accounting Technician for their Cheltenham, Gloucestershire office. A 12-month fixed-term contract within a varied role providing financial support to the accounting function, you will ensure accurate processing of transactions including payments, recharges, intercompany, purchase ledger, payroll, along with maintaining effective communication with operational teams to ensure timely financial information. The position can offer a split of remote/office hybrid working and the opportunity to really add value to a close-knit finance function.
Your new role
Your key duties will include:
- Processing payments in accordance with contractual requirements
- Managing finance transactions across multiple contract services
- Resolving payment queries
- Performing bank reconciliations and investigating unreconciled items and variances
- Supporting the month-end reconciliation processes
- Calculating/processing recharge transactions
- Assisting with the review of recharge balances
- Working closely with operational managers to identify recoverable costs
- Entering purchase invoices into the accounting system
- Matching invoices to purchase orders
- Processing intercompany transactions with accurate VAT treatment
- Reconciling intercompany balances
- Providing holiday cover for payroll processes including payroll data entry and payroll reconciliations
- Supporting the Head of Finance and accounting team with process improvement projects and ad-hoc financial administration duties

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this hands-on & varied Accounting Technician position, you will have:
- Previous experience in a similar role
- A strong understanding of purchase ledger, bank reconciliations and general accounting procedures
- Experience processing high volumes of financial transactions
- A strong attention to detail
- The ability to manage workloads to meet deadlines
- Key communication skills to build both internal and external relationships
- Adaptability to business needs
- Comfort using your own initiative while being a team player
- Key MS Excel skills
- Training in a range of financial systems
Experience within the property or housing sectors, multi-company or group structure environments, Xero systems experience and payroll processing knowledge would be advantageous but not essential.

What you'll get in return

- A salary between £30,000 - £33,000 per annum, depending on experience
