Job Opportunity: Finance Assistant Apprentice
We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our small finance team within our Secondary School, to provide a professional and efficient service, working alongside the Finance Manager to ensure all day-to-day operations run smoothly by completing all administrative tasks in a timely manner.
What You'll Do at Work
- Raise purchase orders ensuring they are approved by the appropriate budget holder.
- Receive and process invoices, ensuring that the goods and services have been received and the expenditure has been approved.
- Prepare the weekly payment runs (BACS).
- Raise invoices to outside bodies for charges relating to school business and post income.
- Receive and check all statements from suppliers.
- Assist colleagues in booking transport and maintaining records for school trips.
- Reconcile and collate paperwork for the monthly school credit card account.
- Deal with relevant telephone and email enquiries.
- Prepare month end reconciliations.
Training Details
Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

What You'll Learn
- Record transactional data.
- Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues, such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
- Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
- Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
- Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience, and different media methods, with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
- Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
- Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training Schedule
- Training will be at North Lindsey College/ Doncaster College where you will access a wide range of facilities on offer.
- Day release.
- You will undertake the Accounts or Finance Assistant Level 2 standard.
- You will undertake Functional Skills for English and/or Maths if needed.
- You will undertake both on and off the job training by a team of industry-qualified professionals to give you the best skills, knowledge, and experience.
Essential Qualifications
- GCSE in:
- English (grade 4/C)
- Maths (grade 4/C)
- Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

- You must be able to travel to and from work and college. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
