Job Purpose
The Service Charge Team Senior is responsible for the delivery of high-quality service charge accounting services to a portfolio of residential and commercial property clients. The successful candidate will have strong technical ability to reconcile handovers and process and prepare more complex sets of service charge accounts. The role involves managing day-to-day client relationships, reviewing service charge accounts, supporting junior team members, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and industry best practice.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining excellent client service standards while contributing to the efficiency, profitability, and growth of the service charge team.
Key responsibilities
Client Portfolio Management
- Manage a portfolio of service charge clients, ensuring deadlines and service level agreements are met.
- Act as a primary point of contact for property managers, managing agents, directors, and leaseholders.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and professional service delivery.
- Respond promptly to client queries and provide technical guidance where required.

Service Charge Accounting
- Prepare and review annual service charge accounts in accordance with relevant regulations and best practice guidance.
- Review income and expenditure schedules, balance sheets, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure accurate treatment of reserve funds, sinking funds, accruals, and prepayments.
- Support the completion of independent examinations and accountant reports where required.
- Monitor client budgets and assist with variance analysis.
Team Leadership & Development
- Provide support, coaching, and technical guidance to junior team members.
- Review work prepared by trainees and accountants to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new team members.
- Promote a positive and collaborative team culture.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Azets procedures, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate and complete working papers and audit trails.
- Identify and escalate risks, issues, or potential compliance concerns.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and process enhancements.
Operational Excellence
- Manage workload effectively to achieve departmental targets and deadlines.
- Support resource planning and workflow management within the team.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through technology and process improvements.
- Assist management with reporting, KPI tracking, and operational reviews.
Business Development Support
- Identify opportunities for additional services within existing client portfolios.
- Support proposals and client meetings where appropriate.
- Contribute to the growth and development of the service charge service line.

Person specification
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in service charge accounting within an accountancy practice, property management company, or specialist service charge environment.
- Strong understanding of service charge accounting principles and property sector requirements.
- Experience preparing and reviewing service charge accounts.
- Reconciling handover funds and processing complex, multiple schedule service charge accounts.
- Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical ability.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and meet multiple deadlines.
- Experience reviewing the work of junior colleagues.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- AAT qualified, ACCA/ACA part-qualified, qualified by experience, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of TPI/RICS Service Charge Residential Management Code and relevant property legislation.
- Experience using specialist service charge accounting systems.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
