Job Opportunity: Accounts & Tax Trainee

TPF Recruitment, the leading accountancy practice recruiters in the South, are delighted to be supporting a well-established accountancy practice with the recruitment of an Accounts & Tax Trainee.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build a career within accountancy practice and gain broad exposure across both accounts and tax. You will work closely with an experienced team and develop your technical knowledge whilst working with a varied portfolio of small and medium-sized businesses and individuals.
The role will initially be predominantly office-based in Liphook, with the opportunity to work from home 1 to 2 days per week once established in the role. There will also be occasional travel to the firm's Alton office.
The Role
As an Accounts & Tax Trainee, you will gain hands-on experience across accounts preparation, bookkeeping, and both business and personal tax.
Typical responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the preparation of statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
- Supporting the preparation of accounts working papers and reconciliations
- Assisting with bookkeeping and maintaining accurate accounting records
- Supporting the preparation of corporation tax returns
- Assisting with personal tax returns
- Preparing and reviewing basic VAT returns
- Supporting clients with general accounting queries
- Assisting with year-end accounts and tax compliance work
- Liaising with clients and the wider team as your experience develops
- Gaining exposure to a varied portfolio of small and medium-sized businesses and individuals
- Supporting senior members of the team with ad hoc accounting and tax work
- Developing your knowledge of accounting standards and UK tax legislation
- Working towards taking on greater responsibility as your experience grows

Requirements
The Ideal Candidate
- Some previous experience within accountancy practice would be advantageous
- Experience of preparing statutory accounts would be preferable
- Alternatively, this could suit an ambitious accounts or finance graduate looking to begin their career in practice
- Good understanding of basic accounting principles and double entry
- An interest in developing a career across both accounts and tax
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines
- Confident and personable communication style
- Keen to learn and develop technically
- Comfortable working as part of a small and supportive team
- Full UK driving license would be advantageous due to occasional travel between offices
