Accounts Assistant

Location: Wallasey
Salary: £30,300 per annum
Reporting to: Financial Controller

The Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Accounts Assistant to join a well-established business based in Wallasey. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day finance function, maintaining accurate accounting records and assisting with loan administration and reporting activities. This is a varied role offering exposure to bookkeeping, reconciliations, reporting and finance administration within a supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts & Bookkeeping

  • Post and reconcile transactions within Xero accounting software.
  • Process bank transactions and perform regular bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and post journals.
  • Monitor rent receipts and loan repayments.
  • Process and post bank payments.
  • Assist with the preparation of accounts for small companies.

  • Prepare and issue end-of-term loan settlement figures.
  • Liaise with the Portfolio Manager to ensure figures are accurate prior to issue.
  • Maintain accurate loan records and supporting documentation.

Reporting & Finance Support

  • Prepare reports from Xero as required.
  • Support month-end and year-end processes.
  • Provide annual reports and supporting information to external accountants.
  • Assist the Financial Controller and wider finance team with accounting and reporting requirements.

Administration & Compliance

  • Assist with Companies House confirmation statements and related filings.
  • Archive financial records and maintain organised filing systems.
  • Attend weekly finance and credit control meetings.
  • Support the team with ad hoc finance and administrative duties as required.

About You

Essential Skills & Experience

  • AAT Level 3 qualified or studying towards AAT Level 4 (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience within an accounts or finance environment.
  • Experience using accounting software, ideally Xero.
  • Good understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
