Junior Accounts Assistant
Location: North Shields
About the Role
We are a well-established and growing accountancy practice based in North Shields, seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accounts Assistant to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with prior experience in a small to medium-sized practice, looking to develop their skills further in a supportive and professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
- Process and reconcile client bookkeeping records using software such as Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage
- Prepare VAT returns and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements
- Support senior accountants with the preparation of management accounts
- Assist with monthly bank reconciliations, prepayments, accruals, and fixed asset schedules
- Liaise with clients to gather required documentation and resolve basic queries
- Maintain accurate and organised client files, both digitally and in physical format
- Ensure deadlines are met and work is completed in line with internal quality standards

Candidate Requirements
- 12 years experience in a similar role within a UK-based accountancy practice
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and year-end account preparation
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g. Xero, Sage, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel
- Working knowledge of VAT and bookkeeping
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn
